WhatsApp Payments New Feature: Now Scan QR Code to Send Money
The WhatsApp Payment service is available only to the mobile version of the application and not on WhatsApp Web. In order to use this service users need to link their WhatsApp number with their Bank Account, as money can be only send to those WhatsApp users who have linked their phone number with the bank account and UPI.
How to use the WhatsApp Payments QR code scan Feature
WhatsApp’s Scan QR code option is only available on the Android beta version of the app. The iOS version of WhatsApp is not reflecting this. Version 2.18.93 on Google Play via beta app shows the feature. Users can go to Settings on WhatsApp, followed by Payments, New Payments and choose Scan QR code as option. A user will then have to point the camera to the QR code and the payment will be completed. The UPI pin will be required to complete the payment process.
The WhatsApp Android beta users need to go to Settings > Payments > New Payments > Scan QR code. You will now direct to the QR code scanning option that will ask you to enter the amount that you wish to send, and it will also ask for UPI PIN for verification.
As yet another digital payments option in India, WhatsApp in February has launched its payments service in India in the beta for select Android smartphones as well as iPhones. Later it is adding the “Send to UPI ID” feature to make it easier for the users to directly send payments to a unique UPI IDs without going into the conversation threads.
However, the app is lacking the QR code payments feature which is present in the rival apps such as Paytm. Now, the latest Android beta version of the WhatsApp has introduced this feature.
The WhatsApp Payments is the company’s first attempt at the digital payments front in India. Within a few days after the launch, WhatsApp Payments is accusing of not offering a secure platform and also not adhering to the UPI’s interoperability characteristics. After rolling out improving visibility that features as the Send to UPI ID button, the app now also has the QR code option as well.
In separate news, as per a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is working on an Advanced GIF Search that is featuring in the 2.18.93 update, but the developers have kept it disabling for development reasons, and it is enabling in a next release. The feature lets users search GIFs in various categories, including Trending, LOL, Love, Sad, Happy, and Dancing.
The update is also including which is starring GIFs, as per the report. Similarly, another report says that the WhatsApp beta for the Android version 2.18.90 is bringing Search Stickers feature that allows the users to search stickers in the doodle view.
